5 Reasons To Switch To a High-Density Pleated Air Filter

If you are in the market for a new air filter, you might feel tempted to go with a standard fiberglass filter. However, you should know that more high-quality options are available, such as pleated air filters.

For those who don’t know, “pleated” filters refer to their folding pattern that helps to increase the surface area on the filter and catch more particles. With this in mind, here are five reasons to switch to a high-efficiency pleated air filter.

They Filter Air More Effectively

The Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value (MERV) on air filters refers to an air filter’s ability to collect particles such as dust and dirt within a certain size range. Most disposable air filters can only collect about 20 percent of particles between 3 and 10 microns.

This would give them a MERV rating of between 1 and 4. However, pleated air filters can often snag over 90 percent of particles in that range and 80 percent of particles between 1 and 3 microns, like auto emissions and lead dust.

They Collect More Particles With Less Airflow Reduction

Air filters with a higher MERV rating will often use a dense material that reduces airflow throughout your home. Since the material makes it more difficult for your system to circulate air, your system must work harder to achieve the same outcome. Thankfully, most high-efficiency pleated filters we carry won’t affect airflow as much because of their folded design creating more surface area.

They Require Less Maintenance Than Traditional Filters

If you purchase a traditional disposable filter, you would need to replace it around once a month. On the other hand, pleated air filters can last much longer. A high-efficiency pleated air filter could last around 60 to 90 days before you would need to replace it.

They Offer Your HVAC System More Protection

It’s easy to forget to change your air filter, but you should know that this could have devastating consequences for your HVAC system. When dust and dirt particles build up in your vents, it could lead your HVAC system to overwork, thus needing repairs. Pleated AC filters will offer better protection for your system, so you won’t have to pay extra for repairs.

Your Home Will Smell Better

Some pleated filters will be made with cotton or polyester and enhanced with carbon materials. This will strengthen your filter’s ability to absorb odors, which a standard fiberglass filter wouldn’t be able to offer. Therefore, your home will smell a little better.

Overall, pleated air filters can benefit your home in numerous ways. Now that you know five reasons to switch to a high-efficiency pleated air filter, what’s stopping you from purchasing one today?
