replacing air filter

Your home’s air quality deserves your attention; moreover, you must know when to replace your air filter. Not replacing your filter can result in poor air quality and lead to a potential breakdown with your home’s HVAC system. So, how often should you replace your air filter? Find out below!

Every 30 to 90 Days

The easiest way to figure out when you need to replace your home’s air filter is by simply keeping track of the last time you replaced it. Remember the Filter recommends that you should replace a basic air filter every 30 days and a pleated air filter every 90 days. To stay on top of this, leave a note on your HVAC unit with the date for the next time you need to replace your filter.

Based on the Filter’s Appearance

Another way you can check to see if your filter needs to be replaced is based on its appearance. When you first get an air filter, it will be all white, but it will get darker over time. When it gets so dark that light no longer passes through the air filter, it’s time to get yourself a new one.

Due to Certain Variables

While 30 days is a common timeframe in which to replace your air filter, there are some variables in your home that might cause you to replace it more often. These variables include:

  • Pet danger
  • The size of your home
  • Allergies and other medical conditions
  • Living in a city
  • Smoke

A Summer/Vacation Home

If you are fortunate to have multiple homes, what should you do with your air filter when you aren’t there? Well, you don’t have to worry about your air filter as much and can get away with only replacing it once or twice a year.

Now that you have the answer to how often should you replace your air filter, you might realize that you might have been putting it off. Remember the Filter has the AAF Flanders air filters you are looking for, so you can give your air filters a high-quality replacement.
