Signs Your Home Has a High Indoor Humidity Level

Investing in your home takes lots of time and effort, but you must consider every detail. If you want to stay comfortable in your home, you need to think about the effects of its indoor air quality. Too much indoor humidity can cause you to be uncomfortable inside, but it can also lead to other detriments to your home. With this in mind, here are the signs your home has a high indoor humidity level.

Mold Starts To Grow Inside

Too much moisture accumulating inside the home can lead to mold growth. Humidity itself is water vapor in the air, so when it collects in a specific area, it can cause mold to spread.

Mold exposure can lead to many adverse health effects, such as respiratory ailments, asthma, and allergic reactions. To ensure your own safety, you must identify the mold and eliminate it immediately. Then, you need to adjust the humidity level in your home.

Condensation Collects on Your Windows

If enough humidity collects in the same location, it will manifest as condensation. One of the easiest places to notice condensation is the windows. The moment you start to see condensation on your windows, you need to start dehumidifying the space. The sooner you do so, the less likely you are to deal with mold and other byproducts of the excessive humidity.

Your Home Starts To Smell Musty

Even if you can’t see any condensation forming, if your home starts to smell musty, it may be due to undetected mold. Your suspicions should arise as soon as you start smelling something awful, so check under your carpet, behind your furniture, and in spaces near the air ducts to find the potential mold growth.

Mold is dangerous, and it will continue to grow if you don’t change your home’s indoor humidity level. When your home starts to feel stuffy, check to see if you need to change the air filter in your HVAC system. When an air filter becomes clogged, it can’t function properly, which can lead to varying humidity levels in your home. Search for AC filters online if you can’t find any stores that sell them near you.

Now that you know a few of the telltale signs your home has a high indoor humidity level, you know what to look out for the next time you sense something is off.
