What Happens When You Ignore A Dirty Air Filter

Do you ever find your self wondering what happens when you ignore a dirty HVAC air filter in a home or business? Maybe not but it’s something we think about and are hear to answer. Plus the reality is the consequences can have a serious impact on not only your HVAC system but the air you breathe. The furnace, ac or HVAC filter in your home or business is responsible for helping to capture dust, dirt, dust mites, mold, bacteria, pollen, pet dander, viruses and other airborne particles that can cause problems. Without a clean HVAC, Furnace or AC filter, these particles can circulate throughout your home or business.

Common health issue that can be exacerbated when you don’t replace or at least check for a dirty HVAC filter is respiratory problems. Particles found in indoor air can irritate lungs and cause coughing, sneezing and other respiratory issues. These particles in your indoor air can also aggravate existing respiratory conditions like asthma and allergies. Along with respiratory problems a dirty air filter can also lead to other issues including headaches, fatigue, and even eye irritation. An increase in energy costs is a great reason to not ignore your air filter as well. A dirty air filter can reduce the efficiency of your heating and cooling system, leading to higher energy bills. It can also put more strain on your system which in turn can lead to costly repair bills from an overworked system.

It’s important to regularly change the air filter in a home or at least check them. If your air filter in your furnace or air conditioner doesn’t look dirty it doesn’t need to be replaced. Ignoring a dirty air filter can lead to a variety of issues, regularly replacing and checking you air filters can help to ensure that the air in your home is clean, healthy and that your system is running efficiently.
